Now anyone can sign up to Flipshake without waiting for an invitation!

Thanks to all of your great feedback during the private portion of our beta, we’ve decided it’s time to move Flipshake into an “open” beta status. That means anyone can now sign up and start using the site right away without waiting for an invitation. This goes hand in hand with the new social sharing/bookmarking feature, so now all those people you share our site with can jump into Flipshake and check it out. Let everyone know about your stuff on Flipshake! Spread the word and help us build a great community.

Some New Features on Flipshake!

New Gallery Views, Flip Flipping in More Places, and Social Sharing

Thanks to some great feedback you’ve given us, we’ve made many really great improvements to Flipshake, but I wanted to point out three major ones. The first thing is new views to our Flip galleries. At the top right corner of a Flip gallery page you’ll find a “View Options” area that lets you switch between the normal view we’ve had all along and two new views: mini-view and detail-view. Mini-view lets you see 100 Flips on the page at once. This is great for looking at a bunch of Flips quickly. Detail-view lets you see 20 Flips at a time but with some of the Flip’s stats and even a “Collect this Flip” button.

The next feature we’ve added is the ability to flip Flips in a lot more places. Previously, the only way to flip Flips was on each Flips detail page. Now we’ve added flipping to almost anywhere you see a Flip. And as a bonus, it even works on your iPhone! Now you can say this ten times fast: How much Flippin would a FlipFlip do if a FlipFlip could Flip Flips?

Finally, we’ve also added social bookmarking and sharing feature to Flipshake! Now from any Flip’s or any person’s page you’ll find links to share or bookmark the page on your favorite social networks. Of course, this wouldn’t be that cool if the people you share with can’t get on the site, so we’ve also… well more on that in a bit! ;)

We hope you like these new features. We’re still tweaking them, so be sure to let us know what you think.

Contest #4 : Alive

contest4-blog

It’s time for our next contest! Better yet, this time we’re finally giving away that awesome Wacom Cintiq 12WX we’ve told you about, along with some other great prizes.

The theme of this contest is “Alive”. What does it mean to be Alive? What does the word “Alive” bring to your mind. More importantly how can you represent “Alive” on both sides of a Flip?

You can submit as many entries as you like and entries will be judged on the creative integration of both sides of a Flip, the Flip’s collection percentage, the creative interpretation of the theme, technical skill, and originality. We also strongly encourage you to write good descriptions for your Flips when submitting them as it can help boost it’s chances during the judging process! There will also be prizes awarded for first, second, and third place.

The submission deadline for “Alive” is January 31st, so go and get Flip making! Artists, photographers, illustrators, designers, 3D modelers –  let’s see what great Flips you can make come Alive!

Check out the “Alive” contest page here, and the current submissions to the contest here.

Good luck!

Contest #3 : Less Is More – Winners

December 1st, 2008 | 5 Comments

Time to announce the winners of our third contest – Less is More. The three Flips below did a great job expressing the idea “Less is More” and we’re glad that each of the winners is a part of the Flipshake community. Once again we had a diverse group of entries, including illustrations, vector art, and photography as represented by the three winning entries. So without further ado:

First place goes to Less Is More by Notofagus

Second place goes to Less is More by JinxBunny

Third place goes to Droplet Orb by Varcoda

Please join us in giving a big thumbs up to these three great Flip makers! Notofagus will be taking home a shiny new iPod nano, a set of Prismacolor Color Pencils, and best of all, a Flipshake T-shirt! JinxBunny and Varcoda get some cool prizes too and all of our winners receive a Flipshake Contest Winner Badge. Be sure to stop by their profile pages and congratulate them.

We haven’t posted a new contest in a while, but we’re getting ready to announce our next contest soon. It’ll be a doozy and everyone who enters will have a chance to win a Wacom Cintiq 12WX pen tablet display! Stay tuned :)
